MONASTERY OF MONTSERRAT

MONTSERRAT MONASTERY: The Hermitage of Our Lady of Montserrat is located in the neighborhood of the same name. Towards the 16th century the cult of this virgin began, which quickly spread to the town’s inhabitants. María de Molina, widow of Fenellós, Lord of Benellup, rebuilt the hermitage to create a monasterial foundation, which in the end was not authorized by the Archbishopric of Valencia and which was authorized to be built to be a convent, remained in ruins as can be seen today.
