Fester Castle and Museum

The castle of Banyeres de Mariola, is located at 830 meters of altitude. The enclosure consists of a polygonal plan with a double walled enclosure in which the Homage Tower stands out, built using the tapial technique (lime, sand, water and small stones). The access is made from the northeast, where you can access the parade ground. When we went up the stairs, we found the cistern and the rooms that housed the surveillance troops. In the last section is the keep, which consists of three floors and houses the festival museum. A museum that allows you to take a historical tour of the most outstanding aspects of the party. The contents are distributed by the main dependencies of this historical building, an extraordinary setting to understand some festive acts that recall the reconquest. Firstly, in the room where the troops were located we find the different costumes that make up the ten comparsas in the municipality. Already in the Tower of Homage we can enjoy the route that supposes the explanation of the party, as well as the description of each festive day and a sample of the covers of the festive programs.

Hermitage Santa María Magdalena

The Hermitage is dedicated to the co-patron saint of Banyeres de Mariola, Santa María Magdalena and is located in the square that bears the same name. It is considered the oldest of the hermitages existing in the municipality. According to the studies carried out, we can say that it is in a rural Gothic style. It consists of a single nave, with a gabled roof and the technique used in its construction is that of the rammed earth, with ashlar masonry in the openings of its doors and windows. This hermitage takes on great importance during the month of July, since various events are held in its honor, such as fairs, correfocs and processions.

Hermitage Santo Cristo

Documentation exists, dating back to the 18th century , which tells us about the old hermitage, but the date of its construction is unknown. On it, in 1904, the one that we can see today was built. The architect Timoteo Briet was in charge of the work. It is in a neo-gothic style. Twice a year, the entire town travels to the hermitage to celebrate two events such as: the Stations of the Cross for Easter and lunch and “L’alçà dels capitans” on April 25, at the Moors and Christians festivities in honor to Saint George. In front of its facade we find a wide square, duly paved, in which is the monument dedicated to our ancestors and those who died in the Civil War.

Church of Santa María

The parish church of Santa María, located in the town’s main square, is neoclassical in style, and its construction ended in 1752. Its interior is shaped like a Latin cross and a large part of its ashlars form part of the ancient temple that was located at the foot of the castle in the current main theater. During the Civil War part of the bell tower was demolished to the base of the bells. Its reconstruction began in 1950, ending it a year later, the year in which the current watch was installed. In De la Malena street, there is the access to the communion chapel, which was built after the church, the first stone was laid on June 17, 1897, it is in the Byzantine style and was inaugurated on September 3, 1899, coinciding with the Relic festivals.

Font Bona Tower – Museu Arqueologic

This tower has undergone many variations in its structure, especially since the mid-s. XIX. It is unknown to which family it belongs, but the building is characterized as a garden building of low noble rank, possibly typical of a Cavaller and associated with agricultural properties. In December 1990, restoration works were carried out in order to locate the Archaeological Museum. The museum is organized on four floors. On the ground floor it shows us detailed information on the characteristics of the tower, as well as its excavation and rehabilitation. On the first floor, he introduces us through explanatory panels and archaeological pieces from prehistory, at the origins of the first settlers in the area. In the second, it chronologically opens the Iberian, Roman, Islamic and Christian world through findings from archaeological excavations in our population. Finally, the third floor is reserved for temporary exhibitions.
