The floor of the temple, with a single nave, is covered with a barrel vault. Inside you can admire two paintings from the 16th century attributed to Father Borrás. The building has undergone various modifications since its foundation in the 13th century.
The cloistered convent occupies a part of the ‘Palau Comtal’, and its church offers a clear example of pure Baroque. The temple keeps paintings by Paolo de Mattei and an Aliprandi dressing room on the main altar that houses the icon of the Virgen del Milagro.
The origin of the structure dates back to the time of Jaime I, although its final form was reflected in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries with the Count of Cocentaina. Inside you can visit the pictorial mural set of the Golden Room and the Ambassadors Room. Also the Gothic altarpiece of Santa Barbara, or the Torre del Paraguas with a supporting structure that makes it unique in the Valencian Community.

The medieval Christian culture developed in Cocentaina inside these walls that exceed a thousand meters in length. To achieve its eminently defensive objective, the structure had 24 towers and four portals that allowed entry to the Christian area.
In the 14th century Casa Museu del Comtat del Center d´Estudis Contestans, you can see the traditional system of making wine, oil and flour, basic products of popular crafts in Cocentaina. On the first floor is a collection of prehistoric materials ranging from the Lower Paleolithic to the Bronze Age.
